NORTHSIDE TRIBE - Childproof (1996 Dayton, OH) - ALTERNATIVE / GRUNGE - 104.7 WTUE

This is one of the best cds I have found in awhile. As I type this, I am contemplating whether to keep this one for my personal collection, or to keep on with this post.

This band was from Dayton, Ohio. They seemed to have a pretty big following back in the mid nineties and got in good with 104.7 WTUE the local station in Dayton. That helped them get airplay, and a nice fan base.

They released this 10 song album in 1996 on Jam Packed Records. The tracklist shows 9 tracks, but it actually has hidden tracks, that make a total of 10 songs. They have a nice grunge sound to them, and although I am not musician and know NOTHING about music, I feel like they sound like a band that had what it takes to make it big. I don`t know why they never got bigger than they did.

I don`t think they ever released any other music, but I don`t know. I would love to hear more of them. I`m not sure what the guys are up to now.

MY SISTER JANE - Pain In The Middle (1992 Salt Lake City, UT) Folk ROCK

Here`s a cool cd from the all female folk / rock group My Sister Jane. They self released it in 1992. It features 13 great tracks. I don`t know a whole lot about them, but it sounds like they had a pretty good following back in the day, and made a name for themselves in the Salt Lake music scene.

VARIANT - The Weeping Wall (1992 Spokane, WA) CHRISTIAN

Here`s one that I don`t know much about. It is a Christian band from Spokane, Washington called "Variant" the tape is titled "The Weeping Wall". It was released in 1992 by the band.

HEEBIE JEEBIES - Self Titled (1990 Seattle, WA) THOSE WHO DIG

Next up is a tape I know almost nothing about. I have scoured the net, to no avail. The band is called "Heebie Jeebies" and the cassette is self titled and was put out in 1990. They are from the Seattle, Washington area.

The cassette holds 9 tracks: Put Me Through Hell, Lights, Geraldine`s Supersonic Gin And Tonic, Big Red Barn, Fistful Of Money, Hey Girl, Shiver N' Shake, Smokescreen, and The Cow Song.

The band members were:

Jim McGreevy - Vocals/Harmonica

Don Jensen - Vocals/Guitar/Slide Guitar

Derk Bennett - Guitar/Lead Guitar

Yoshi "Halfmoon" Hasegawa - Bass

Brian Richards - Drum

THE PUMA WAY - Spanish Castle (2000 Seattle, WA)

Here is a cd that I know almost nothing about. The band is "The Puma Way" and the cd is called "Spanish Castle". The Puma Way was a Seattle, Washington band. They released this cd in 2000 on Workshop Records. It holds 10 tracks, with guest vocals from Vern Rutter, Dori Craze, Dallas Talley, and Gary Nelson. BLYNDSYDE - Self Titled (1999 San Jose, CA) MELODIC ROCK

Here is a super rare, and great cd from "Blyndsyde" (not the metal band from Pennsylvania), these guys were from San Jose, California. This was their only release, a 3 track EP that is pretty cool. They released it themselves in 1999.

Here is one that I don`t know much about at all. The band is "After Five", a four piece band from San Antonio, Texas. The cd is named "Within The Walls". It was released in 1998 and has 11 tracks.

BOT - Self Titled (1996 Issaquah, WA) BEER ON TAP - Chad Cook

Here is a great rock cd from the Issaquah, Washington band Bot. Released in 1996 on Colloid Records, it features 12 tracks. The band consisted of brothers Chad and Blake Cook, and Mike Ashe. The Cook’s started recording music in 1982 on cassette tapes. Fallout Records in Seattle sold their band Beer On Tap, “Faster Thrashing Speed”, tape back in the day. BOT came later, and is on the 1986 “Northwest Hardcore” compilation along with the Melvins, Accused among others artists. In 2001 Chad formed The Neon Wilderness, who eventually signed to DC jam Records. Chad continues to write, record, and perform to this day.

SUPERVILLAIN - Leviathan (1998 Vancouver, WA) HARD ROCK

Next up is "Leviathan", a 3 track cd from the Vancouver, Washington hard rock band "Supervillain". Released by the band in 1998, I`m not sure if this was a debut, or a demo. Either way it`s pretty good. Heavy rock, almost metal sounding. The 3 songs on the cd are "Leviathan", "Terminator", and "10 Ton Gorilla". Not much information can be found on these guys, except for the "Produced by Aston Case & Supervillain" on the back cover. AKA - Self Titled (1995 Issaquah, WA) MELODIC ROCK

Here is an awesome cd from AKA. They were a great rock band from Issaquah, Washington. This self titled cd was released in 1995 on Warrior Productions. The band got some local radio play from the Seattle rock stations, KISW 99.9 FM and Y-93 FM.

This is an awesome cd, and it is VERY hard to come by. Don`t miss your chance to own it!

Here is a tape only release from Seattle`s "Jr. Cadillac". Anyone who knows anything about PNW music has at least heard of these guys. They have been rockin` for over 46 years! THE SLIP - Self Titled (1991 Cleveland, OH) RARE - Joe Lagani & Jeff Marginean

Here is an ultra rare rock cd from the Cleveland, Ohio band "The Slip", consisting of the duo Joe Lagani & Jeff Marginean. It is a 4 track EP from 1991. It was engineered by Andrew Funk.

I don't know much about these guys, but would really like to.

DIVIDED SKY - Dissonance (1994 Lynnwood, WA) RARE - ALTERNATIVE ROCK

Here is a super rare, lesser known but killer rock gem from the band "Divided Sky". The band was from Lynnwood, Washington. I think this was their debut album. I am not positive, but I think this was the only music they released. "Divided Sky" features 10 great tracks.

STORM LARGE - Storm And Her Dirty Mouth (1998 San Francisco, CA) The Balls - Flower FM - Mermen

WOW! Where do I start? She has accomplished so much! Normally I am trying to find anything to write about in other posts, but with Storm Large I am trying to condense things down, because I don't like to write huge posts. Storm is a singer, songwriter, actor, and author. She got national exposure on the CBS reality television show Rock Star: Supernova.

 

She was born and raised in Southborough, Massachusetts, but moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1990's. While in San Francisco Storm formed the bands Flower SF, Storm and Her Dirty Mouth, and Storm, Inc. Storm also performed with Michael Cavaseno as the duo Storm and Michael or Storm and Friends. She then moved to Portland, Oregon in 2002, and played with the band "The Balls". One of her groups Storm, Inc. featured Shaunna Hall of 4 Non Blondes. Her group The Balls, also known as Storm and the Balls, featured Davey Loprinzi (aka "Hotrod" Davey Nipples, formerly of Sweaty Nipples) on bass guitar. She also performed in the groups Drumattica,and FlowerSF. I could go on forever... She also did TV, Movies, theatre and more.

ONDINE - Self Titled (1994 Seattle,WA) PRODUCED BY DON GILMORE - RARE OOP

This band was supposed to make it big, but never really did. I remember them getting play on 107.7 The End, and I thought they might get huge. Pretty cool band, that put on a killer show. I never saw them live, but I heard they were great. This is their debut, a 5 track disc produced by the legendary Don Gilmore.

Here is a great female fronted rock band from Cali. I don`t have much info on the band. I know the cd was recorded at The Jungle Room, in Glendale California. It features 14 killer tracks!

JAIME LEVI - Self Titled (1994 Yellow Springs, OH) JAIME LEVI ADOFF - ROCK AOR

Here is an awesome cd from Jaime Levi (actually Jaime Adoff, Levi is his middle name). Jaime released this in 1994 on his own label, "Blueish Music". Jaime is the son of famous writers Virginia Hamilton (R.I.P.) and Arnold Adoff. Jaime went on to release at least 2 other cds, possibly more. This cd is surprisingly good (in my opinion), Jaime is a real talent, probably inheriting some skills from his folks.

X-RAY ROGER JIMMY - Radiopaque (1998 Bloomington, IN) Power Pop - Rock

X-Ray Roger Jimmy started out in South Bend as a college band. A couple years later, they moved to Bloomington while they finished college. They ended up with three albums: X-Ray Roger Jimmy (self-titled), Radiopaque, and Vanity. They went through a few line-up changes, and added a mix of covers and original songs. They have played with Barenaked Ladies, Kid Rock, and many others.
