MY SISTER JANE - Pain In The Middle (1992 Salt Lake City, UT) Folk ROCK

Here`s a cool cd from the all female folk / rock group My Sister Jane. They self released it in 1992. It features 13 great tracks. I don`t know a whole lot about them, but it sounds like they had a pretty good following back in the day, and made a name for themselves in the Salt Lake music scene.

S ANDERSON - In A Dream (1990 Portland, OR) LINDA HORNBUCKLE -NU SHOOZ

Steve Anderson`s "In A Dream", was released in 1990 on Steve`s "Stenson Music".While I don`t know much about these guys, I can tell you this, the cassette has 6 songs and has Northwest Gospel/Soul diva, Linda Hornbuckle (R.I.P.) of Nu Shooz, as well as many other Portland bands. Linda unfortunately passed away at the age of 59.

THE CHENILLE SISTERS - Self Titled Demo (1986 Ann Arbor, MI) RARE

 photo The Chenille Sisters WM_zpse6e4jqh7.jpg Here`s a rare tape from Ann Arbor, Michigan`s The Chenille Sisters. The Chenille Sisters are a folk band, made up of singer Grace Morand, guitarist and songwriter Connie Huber, and singer/songwriter Cheryl Dawdy. The Chenille Sisters formed in 1985, when Dawdy joined Morand and Huber, who had been performing together at The Old Town in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They made this demo in 1996, right before they made their first album. The group has done a ton of stuff since then, including programs for PBS. They still perform and record music together.

THE BIG PICTURE - Self Titled (1991 Portland, OR) SKY IN THE ROAD

 photo The Big Picture WM_zpskavvzocd.jpg Now known as "Sky In The Road", this Portland, Oregon folk band dropped this TAPE ONLY gem in 1991. There are 6 tracks on this cassette. In 1995 the founding members of "The Big Picture", Daniel Rhiger and Rahmana Wiest started playing under the name "Sky In The Road". Before that the band spent the early 1990`s playing gigs all around the Pacific Northwest. Dan Rhiger received two runner-up awards in Billboard Magazine´s 1991 National Songwriting Contest. The two songs honored, Skyward Dancer and The Rediscovery of Fire, both songs are on this tape.

In 2001 Sky in the Road has been featured three times on the nationally syndicated radio show River City Folk.

It was released in 1994, and was recorded in front of a studio audience at O.M.B. productions, in Port Orchard, Washington. It features 10 great tracks. Aunt Betsy was a great folk band, and have a pretty big fanbase still.

JOANN THORN - The Elephant And The Owl (1990 Olympia, WA) FOLK

It has 10 nice tracks. JoAnn has been part of the Olympia music scene forever. I believe she still plays at a lot of the local events there. I am not sure if she has released other music though. TOM LILLO - Long Way Home (1989 Los Angeles, CA) RARE - TAPE ONLY - FOLK

 photo Tom20Lillo_zpswuv9ga4c.jpg Here is a super rare TAPE ONLY release from Tom Lillo. Tom is a songwriter/producer based in the Los Angeles area. I can't find any info on this release from 1989, and I am not sure if he released anything else until 1999 when he worked with producer David Miner, who had worked with Elvis Costello, T-Bone Burnett, and Pierce Pettis, to make the album Blue Eyed Mystic, released the album on his own label, Insurrection Records. Guest musicians on the album were country superstar, Dwight Yoakam, the legendary Frank Sinatra, and Jason Wade, of Lifehouse. He also released a solo album in 2013 called "Brand New Start".

CHRISTOPHER BINGHAM - The Burning - 1993 Seattle, WA - FOLK ROCK

 photo Clumsy Lovers - Red Tape_zpsodj0s8hw.jpg This is the TAPE ONLY debut from Coquitlam, British Columbia`s "The Clumsy Lovers". It was released in 1993 independently by the band. They later went on to be signed by Nettwerk Music Group. They released at least 8 more albums, but I don`t believe they have put anything out since 2009, and I am not sure if they are still together.

QUELL - Tabernacle Jones - 1995 Oak Park, IL - RARE FOLK - JAMIE FILLMORE - MY CANADIAN GIRLFRIEND - CAITLIN STROKOSCH

 photo Quell_zps56k1oe5h.jpg Released in 1995 this "Chicago" progressive folk trio is now disbanded. The trio consisted of Anthony Burton, Jamie Fillmore, and Caitlin Strokosch. Jamie Fillmore most notably went on to take over guitar duty in Cheer Accident, and now is in the band My Canadian Girlfriend. Strokosch went on to run the "Alliance of Artists Communities".
