Here is a great tape only release from Gerry Rose and his band. Gerry was a "blues man", he played in Texas, Florida, and elsewhere. His home was Tampa Bay, Florida. He spent his earlier years backing up Freddie King and John Lee Hooker. The road life took it`s toll on him and he passed away on March 21, 2000, rather unexpectedly.

I knew GW & played in The Thorns for 1 tour.
ReplyDeleteHe was my neighbor and friend...had the honor of jamming with him a few or more times. Even rodied for him once.....hell of a musician and a pleasure to know....left us way to soon...god bless his soulful soul.
ReplyDeleteG.W. Rose was "My Brother from another mother" and was also indisputably a "World Class" Texas Blues Guitarist with soulful vocals & musical talent that opened doors for him wherever he went.
ReplyDeleteHe was born 9 days after Stevie Ray Vaughn in the exact same Dallas Texas hospital & played guitar for and toured with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Freddy King, Lucky Peterson, etc., etc. before starting his own band "G.W. Rose and The Thorns that at its prime was a 6 to 8 piece "Power Show Band" with a booking agent & performing 7 to 9 gigs a week that he acknowledges with the verse in his Texas Boy song of "and The Dealer sent His Magic as He played His only round".
Myself and many others greatly miss G.W. as a personal friend AND as a Great Musical Talent that was on the verge of "Making It" in a very competitive talent filled business.
Well said! I met Gerry when I was 14, he was playing in the Hourglass Band, with Mike Capps, Stevie Way, and Steve Barlock! I learned many lessons I hold on to dearly. I visited Gerry later on and sold him a Les Paul, his band was practicing, horns and all. I witnessed a version of 25 or 6 to 4, I was blown away! I miss as my friend and I will keep his memories alive!
