Here is a great tape from The Boyys. This was released in 1988 on Woodmont Records. It features 11 great tunes, and features a guest spot from David Lanz. This was only released on cassette, and is impossible to find. I don`t know much about "The Boyys", but I do know that lead vocalist Jon Dalgarn now runs a program based in Bellingham, Washington called "Out Of The Ashes". Here is a great TAPE ONLY release from Randy Rhoads. He was originally from Montana, but went to Nashville to make a living in country music. This tape is VERY rare. The only song on the cassette is "Honey Do Weekend". It was written by Bennie Wade, and produced by Andy Anderson. Randy was managed by the former rodeo rider, Bob Sivertson.

THE SIDE STREET STRUTTERS - Self Titled (198? Tempe, AZ) JAZZ

Formed in 1983 by Arizona State University students, who were interested in early New Orleans jazz, still have the same core members over 25 years later! They have performed in all fifty states, seven European countries, Canada and Mexico. They have earned national and international acclaim, have made National radio and television appearances, have appeared at dozens of European and U.S. jazz festivals, and do regular performances at California's Disneyland. I am unsure of the date of this tape`s release, but I know it was after 1984, and I know that it was never released on any other format.

BRENDA KUTZ WHITE - Self Titled (1985 Bellevue, WA) CHRISTMAS IN THE NORTHWEST - CHRISTIAN

Here is a super rare tape from Brenda Kutz (White). She is best known for her appearances on the "Christmas In The Northwest" series. Brenda is a great vocalist. I am not sure how much music she went on to make after this. This was released in 1985 on "Antioch Publishing", it was never put on anything other than cassette.

POUND - Self Titled (1994 Chicago, IL) ETHYLINE - SLUDGEWORTH - SCREECHING WEASEL -

This band is now called "Ethyline". The band started out as a side project from Screeching Weasel, a band that Dan and Brian were in. Later that year, they left S.W. for Sludgeworth. They dropped an EP in 1990, then a full-length album in 1991, but split up in 1992. Dan Schafer went back to a reborn Screeching Weasel, while the rest of the group formed Pound (now called Ethyline), with new singer Matt Bessemer. Ethyline is no longer together, but they were more alternative rock, while when the band was called Pound they were more a punk rock band.

Here is a great cd from Overlake Christian Center. This one is VERY hard to get. I have it, and have seen it on cassette a couple of times, but the cd is IMPOSSIBLE to find! BUT here it is! I am unsure of the date on this one, I am thinking it was made in the early 90`s, though. This awesome cd features 4 tracks, all of which are medleys of multiple praise songs.

I don`t know a whole lot about "Light Force International", other than the fact that they were from Seattle, Washington. They released this tape in 1988 on their own. I am unaware of any other music that they may have released.

THE JIM FINNERAN BAND - Presents Country Classics (19?? Seattle, WA) Country - Bluegrass

I am unsure of the year that this one was released, but I am guessing early to mid eighties. It features 9 great covers of classics! Jim Finneran and his band were a great little country cover band. They played shows all over the northwest, many times with Jim using his computer to play four instruments at once. The group did country and bluegrass, and were a good draw at local music festivals.

ROB ONDRAS - Forever In Your Eyes (1987 Issaquah, WA) Country - TAPE ONLY

Issaquah, Washington`s own Rob Ondras. He quit school in the 11th grade to pursue his passion, he moved to Columbus, Indiana so he could be close to Nashville where he recorded this, his debut. Rob had help from Ira Allen, who wrote songs for Loretta Lynn, and Conway Twitty. Rob never made it "big" , but he managed to make a career of music as far as I know. Good for him!

Here`s one for ya. Blindsight, "Ashes of Defeat". Self released in 1997 by the band, it holds 3 songs, "O.M.C.", "It`s My Life", and "Foundation". Killer shit here. On the other side of the tape, it has the band "Downside NYC" which I am assuming isn`t the Downside from Minnesota, but I could be wrong. On the Downside, side of the tape it has 3 songs, also. They are "World Of Shit", "Giving Up", and "???".

Here is the first release from NJ rat rock band "Brickface", the band did have a demo, also. This one was released on TAPE ONLY by the band. It features 6 killer songs. This one has 2 of the 3 songs off of the demo, but the demo has a track called "Mind Jump", which "X Wax" doesn`t have.

NANCY DAY - Survivor (1989 Pittsburgh, PA) Inspirational / Conscious music

Nancy Day is a composer and performer who for a number of years, made music and did talks addressing the issues of violence, rape, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and other types of abuse.

Her music is meant to inspire victims of these crimes, and to open the eyes of non-victims to these crimes. This TAPE ONLY release came out in 1989 and featured 12 uplifting songs.

Wayne was the lead singer, pastor of the church, and he has also written many great books over the years. I don`t believe this was ever released on anything but cassette. YOSUKE YAMASHITA - Sakura - 1990 JAPAN - RARE JAZZ - PIANO

Here is a great cd from the legendary Japanese jazz pianist Yosuke Yamashita, and his partners Cecil McBee and Pheeroan Aklaff, who make up a killer trio. These three got together in the 80`s and formed the "New York Trio". This was in a lot of folks opinion`s their best work. Yosuke first played professionally in 1959.

TWO GUYS - Recorded - 2003 Portland, OR. - CAMERON AND RYAN JONES -

Brothers Cameron and Ryan Jones, make up "Two Guys". Cameron was in the bands Thingy and Pinback, and you can hear the influence of those bands on "Recorded". Cameron sounds a lot like Matthew Sweet. The vocals of Cameron Jones work well with the music. Their music is "poppy" and have been compared to the band Built to Spill. This was a great debut for the duo.

As far as I know they put out 2 other tape only releases before "Wonderful Grace", they were 1990`s "Victory" and 1992`s "On Calvary". I don`t know if they made any more music after 1994. THE GOSPEL SONS - Servant, Soldier, Son - 1980 Vancouver, WA - CHRISTIAN GOSPEL

Here is a great Southern gospel cassette from "The Gospel Sons" from Vancouver, Washington. The Gospel Sons were made up of Stan Kirschenmann on baritone vocals, Don Smith (lead) and Terry Vander Stoep on tenor vocals, John Standefer on guitar, Dave Capron (also some piano) and Mike Dyer both on bass, Rick Barber on drums, and Craig Russell on keys. The tape consists of 10 great tracks, and was produced by Ted Nichols and engineered by Dave Matthews and Steve Huegli. The group had been dormant for 9 years, but reunited in 2010 and are still active under the name "Classic Gospel Sons, LLC"

Here`s a super dope compilation from Sir Mix A Lot`s "Rhyme Cartel" Records. It features Seattle rap and R&B talent, including E Dawg, Kid Sensation, Mix A Lot, Jay Skee, 3rd Level, and Jazz Lee Alston.
The most remembered track from this one in my opinion is the opening song "Drop Top" by E Dawg, featuring Bay Area rapper "Filthy Rich". This track was tight and was and still is a Seattle anthem!

Vanilla Ice ain`t got shit on Garyboy. No one mentions Garyboy when we speak of white rappers, yet here he was, making crazy shit like this. I`m not sure if Garyboy fixed his eyes and went on to make more music, but here is his 1990 single, which features 3 mixes of the track, and an instrumental of another song called "Sang You Song". Actually, this isn`t too bad compared to some of the crap that was coming out around the same time!

KEN LAWSON - For The Heart - 1985 Aberdeen, WA - CHRISTIAN - PRAISE

Here is a lesser known Christian gem, from Ken Lawson. From the small town of Aberdeen, WA (hometown of Kurt Cobain) Ken`s music is hard to find outside of Washington State, and is unfortunately overlooked. Here is a great tape from a gifted trio of sisters called "Choice". Dana, Becky, and Lindy Jo Brimhall made up the group, other than that I cannot find much information about the group, so I will just let their music do the talking! I must say that I am about 99% sure that this was NEVER released on any format, other than cassette tape.

Here is the self titled "Demo" from CXQ5. This is INSANELY-RARE, it was self made by the band in 1995. They later went on and made a couple cds, but this is TAPE ONLY, NEVER PUT ON CD! You won`t find this one anywhere else! I remember hearing the song "CXQ5" on 107.7 KNDD back in 1995. They used to play it on "The Young And The Restless", which was a radio show that played local, up and coming acts. This is killer Power Pop! It features 3 great tracks, "Pioneer Original", "Falling From Grace", and "Tune Up".

SPENCER THE GARDENER - Happiness Comes To My House - 1990 Santa Barbara, CA - POP - LATIN

Here is a cool Latin sounding pop band founded by Spencer Barnitz, who happened to be a gardener. This was their second release, and like their first (Boy With The Two Big Heads) it was ONLY RELEASED ON CASSETTE TAPE.

Spencer and friend Brad Nack formed the band "The Tan" in 1979, and were signed to EMI, then broke up in 1986. This band was totally different than "The Tan", and though they may not have hit major label levels, they have been rockin` for 23 years now, and doing good!

KINGPIN HAYES - Quit Your Day Job - 2002 Seattle, WA - POWER POP - EMO

KPH is actually a Pullman, Washington band they formed while the members were in college, at Washington State University. They later left their growing fan base, and moved back to Seattle, where they built another following. KPH plays a cool mix of Emo and Power Pop. This is their second release, a follow up to their first, which was the "Spank" EP. The group later released a third EP titled "Dynomite Split", which was released in 2003. The band has since broken up.
