SILAS BLAK - 1986 (2006 Seattle, WA - Silent Lambs Project - Blak Stax

Silas Blak is Seattle hip hop. Long before Macklemore wrote his Seattle anthem "The Town", you know the one where he says "14 Fathoms Deep, Do the Math, Tribal" praising these classic Seattle hip hop compilations, Silas was rappin` on them.

He then went on and made the lesser known, but great hip hop gem "Soul Liquor" with Silent Lamb Project. Next he made the topic of this post, "1986" a dope 7 track hip hop masterpiece. Later hooked up with the Blak Stax crew, and I believe he is currently doing a Cabin Games project.

NORTHSIDE TRIBE - Childproof (1996 Dayton, OH) - ALTERNATIVE / GRUNGE - 104.7 WTUE

This is one of the best cds I have found in awhile. As I type this, I am contemplating whether to keep this one for my personal collection, or to keep on with this post.

This band was from Dayton, Ohio. They seemed to have a pretty big following back in the mid nineties and got in good with 104.7 WTUE the local station in Dayton. That helped them get airplay, and a nice fan base.

They released this 10 song album in 1996 on Jam Packed Records. The tracklist shows 9 tracks, but it actually has hidden tracks, that make a total of 10 songs. They have a nice grunge sound to them, and although I am not musician and know NOTHING about music, I feel like they sound like a band that had what it takes to make it big. I don`t know why they never got bigger than they did.

I don`t think they ever released any other music, but I don`t know. I would love to hear more of them. I`m not sure what the guys are up to now.

MARCOS WITT - Poderoso (1993 San Antonio, TX) CCM - SPANISH

Probably the most famous Christian musician who makes music in Spanish, Marcos is also the pastor of a large church and lives in Houston, TX.

He still releases music on his label, CanZion Productions, the same label he released this 9 song album on in 1993.

NEEMA - My Life For Sale (2006 Seattle, WA) UNEXPECTED ARRIVAL - GRYNCH - CRYTICAL

This is a great cd from a cool dude, Neema of Unexpected Arrival. It was released in 2006, features 16 tracks, and some guest spots from some BIG name artists like Kurupt, Dylan, Wingo of Jagged Edge, Tru ID, Mense, and Twista. He also has locals Grynch, Crytical, and Real. Neema must have spent some dough on these guest spots, or he has some good connections in the game, which wouldn`t surprise me.

I met this guy at the mall in Tukwila, Washington. He was selling his cds, and I bought one, even though at that time I hated Seattle rap. I only bought one because he was a nice guy, and he seemed to be hustling hard trying to sell his music and get his name out. Turns out I was right. I would see dude everywhere, selling his shit, and promoting Unexpected Arrival.

Other than Nacho Picasso and Raz Simone, I don`t listen to Seattle rap, but when I`m hunting for a Nacho or Raz song I seem to run across Neema`s name in comments a lot. I say good for him!

MARK ANTHONY - U Should Be Lovin` Me (1998 Seattle, WA) G FUNK - BEEZIE MACK - DEE LOVE - SQUEEK NUTTY BUG - B LEGIT

Here is a super dope, rare gem from Seattle`s Mark Anthony. Mark is a great singer/rapper. He dropped this is 1998 on MAR records. It features help from a handful of other talented Seattle musicians, with rap from Konscious, and production from Beezie Mack, Dee Love, and J One. Also a cool track called "After Midnight", where Mark teams up with Vallejo, California`s one and only B Legit, from the C-L-I-C-K! I`m not sure what Mark has released. I know I once had a single from him called "End of the Week" that was released in 1995.

ENOCH - Ivory Persuasion (1989 El Toro, CA) Christian - Piano

Self released in 1989 on cassette only. It features 10 Christian Gospel piano songs. I don`t know much if anything about Enoch, other than that I believe he is still active, and is from California. More specifically the El Toro area.

MY SISTER JANE - Pain In The Middle (1992 Salt Lake City, UT) Folk ROCK

Here`s a cool cd from the all female folk / rock group My Sister Jane. They self released it in 1992. It features 13 great tracks. I don`t know a whole lot about them, but it sounds like they had a pretty good following back in the day, and made a name for themselves in the Salt Lake music scene.

DARKWOODS MY BETROTHED - Witch Hunts (1998 Finland)

Formerly known as "Virgin Cunt" this band (no longer together) came from Kitee Finland. They started out doing Black Metal that was vulgar and satanic themed. Later, they changed their name, took their music more seriously, and it showed. They also shifted to a Norse mythology/Viking themed Black Metal band. They split up soon after this release. They tried to make a comeback doing some live shows and releasing a compilation, but it didn`t last long.

JANET JACKSON - Got Til It`s Gone (1997 PROMO) Q TIP - JONI MITCHELL

Here`s a rare promotional only cd single from Janet Jackson. It features 5 versions of the song "Got Til It`s Gone". The song featured guest spots from Joni Mitchell and the rapper Q Tip from the hip hop group "Tribe Called Quest". I love these promo cds, as they always have cool artwork, and versions of songs that you can`t find anywhere else. This is no exception, and is a must have for any Janet/Jackson family collector.

CELL BLOCK COMPILATION (1996 Bay Area, CA) LIL GANGSTA P - BAD N FLUENZ - LUNIZ

Here is a classic Bay Area compilation from 1996. It is hard to find and has tracks from Bay Area heavyweights, that weren`t released anywhere else.

This compilation has 17 tracks from artists like Too Short, Bad N Fluenz, Father Dom, Shorty B, Lil Gangsta P, and more.

It also features top notch production from the Cell Block Records in house producers, as well as a track produced by Tone Capone and one from Richie Rich.

Here is a great Japanese swing compilation imported from West Germany in 1989. It holds 10 tracks from artists that were on the Three Blind Mice record label.
