TOM LILLO - Long Way Home (1989 Los Angeles, CA) RARE - TAPE ONLY - FOLK

photo Tom20Lillo_zpswuv9ga4c.jpg Here is a super rare TAPE ONLY release from Tom Lillo. Tom is a songwriter/producer based in the Los Angeles area. I can't find any info on this release from 1989, and I am not sure if he released anything else until 1999 when he worked with producer David Miner, who had worked with Elvis Costello, T-Bone Burnett, and Pierce Pettis, to make the album Blue Eyed Mystic, released the album on his own label, Insurrection Records. Guest musicians on the album were country superstar, Dwight Yoakam, the legendary Frank Sinatra, and Jason Wade, of Lifehouse. He also released a solo album in 2013 called "Brand New Start".

MUMBLEYAK - Renaissance (1994 Seattle, WA) RARE - MELODIC - JASON SUKO

photo Mumbleyak_zpsgujiwixe.jpg Here is a band I happen to like a lot. On an Ebay listing the seller explained the band's sound like this; "IF ALICE IN CHAINS AND THE CULT HAD A BABY AND THEY ADDED KEYBOARDS AND BIG HARMONIES , THIS IS WHAT THEY WOULD SOUND LIKE". I don't know much about the band, but I do know that I love their sound and am glad I have a second copy for myself. This was their debut release from 1994. I know the band wnt on to release another one in 1996 (I think) called "Hotti Bo Trotti". I am not sure if they have any other music out there other than that.

STORM LARGE - Storm And Her Dirty Mouth (1998 San Francisco, CA) The Balls - Flower FM - Mermen

 photo Storm_zpssknk4dj9.jpg
WOW! Where do I start? She has accomplished so much! Normally I am trying to find anything to write about in other posts, but with Storm Large I am trying to condense things down, because I don't like to write huge posts. Storm is a singer, songwriter, actor, and author. She got national exposure on the CBS reality television show Rock Star: Supernova.

She was born and raised in Southborough, Massachusetts, but moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1990's. While in San Francisco Storm formed the bands Flower SF, Storm and Her Dirty Mouth, and Storm, Inc. Storm also performed with Michael Cavaseno as the duo Storm and Michael or Storm and Friends. She then moved to Portland, Oregon in 2002, and played with the band "The Balls". One of her groups Storm, Inc. featured Shaunna Hall of 4 Non Blondes. Her group The Balls, also known as Storm and the Balls, featured Davey Loprinzi (aka "Hotrod" Davey Nipples, formerly of Sweaty Nipples) on bass guitar. She also performed in the groups Drumattica, and FlowerSF. I could go on forever... She also did TV, Movies, theatre and more.

NEXT EXIT - Metropolitan West (1983 Seattle, WA) VARIANT CAUSE - NEW WAVE - POST PUNK

 photo picture308_zpslaheidus.jpg
Next Exit was formed in Spokane, Washington. They moved to Seattle and became Variant Cause in 1985. They released this one in 1983 on KDT Records, their song "Static Cling" was featured on the Seattle Syndrome II compilation. They made strange music with bird noises, odd guitar sounds, weird sound effects, and melancholy lyrics like other new wave bands of the era. They didn't release this one on cd, but it did make it to LP. I am not sure if they made any other music as Next Exit, or what they did as "Variant Cause", but I think they were great on this one!

BYRON PRATHER - Self Titled (199? Seattle, WA) RARE - TAPE ONLY - CHRISTIAN

photo ced6030f-ae4c-4f6f-99b1-89c8fb431c8a_zpsbj0ivepf.jpg Now the lead man for the band "The Beat Project", and the Beatles cover band "Creme Tangerine", Byron Prather is a nationally recognized recording artist. In the late 90’s he toured for 2 years on the west coast and Canada to promote his album Everything So Right. When he's not rockin' he can be found managing one of the biggest Web sites on the net. I'm not sure if he still makes Christian music or not. I'm not sure exactly what year he dropped this tape, but I know it is a tape only release and am pretty sure it is pretty limited in the number of copies that were pressed.

THE TEXANS - Blood Kin (198? Branson, MO) RARE - TAPE ONLY - COUNTRY/GOSPEL CHRISTIAN

 photo 924dc365-d061-463d-b396-9579c7535bb0_zpsn6fumgq6.jpg
Here is my second post from "The Texans". Like I stated in the previous post, the band began in 1971 as The Masters' Four; a full time traveling quartet. In 1983, they moved to Branson, MO and became known as The Texans. The artwork shows a Branson, Mo. address for the band, so this must be from 1983 or later, but I'm not sure exactly when. Since the catalog # for this release is MOTEX 9611 and the last tape from them I posted was # MOTEX 9612, I assume this is older than the tape in the last post. I also know that this was a TAPE ONLY release and never made it to cd. They are still performing today, although the line-up is different and many members have come and gone over the years. They have done shows with Christian heavyweights including Cecil Todd, TD Jakes, Jesse Duplantis, Jerry Falwell, Tim Lahaye, and many more.

THE BUTTONFLIES - XYZ (1995 Davis, CA) RARE - TAPE ONLY - ACAPPELLA

photo scan0008_zpsixhokfw6.jpg Here is a super rare TAPE ONLY gem from the Davis, California acappella group "The Buttonflies".
I don't have a whole lot of information on these guys, but the group consisted of:
John Kessler, Anthony Costello, Nate Ballard, Dan Smith, and Eric Jordan.

I believe this was released in 1995, and was definitely a tape only release. I imagine they didn't make more than a few hundred, but probably less. I think they were pretty talented and am surprised there is not more info out there about them.
