Mr. Clean was a funk / jazz band that dated all the way back to at least 1966. Headed by Ollie McClay, "Mr. Clean" has had a number of different members, but in 1992 at the time of this release, the band consisted of Ollie McClay, Johnny McClain, Albert (Terminator) Hobson, Jerome Biship, and Gordon Botler. At this time the band was based in Spokane, Washington. I am unable to find much information on "Mr. Clean", what I do know is that their music is pretty cool. They are kind of funk, kind of jazz.So check it out, if you like the tape, you can buy it from me.

I knew the band when they hire Ollie, they changed their name from Great Northern to Mr Clean and the Clean Macine. It was in the mid 1970's and they were playing in The Dalles Oregon at the Shamrock and various other northwest locations. The band broke up when the leaders father had cancer and they moved back to the Olympia Washington area. The guitar player, Jimmy Allison, was killed in a work related accident in Olympia that pretty much ended the band. He had been working painting lines on the side of Martin WAY in Olympia and a drunk teenage driver slammed into the truck where Jimmy was standing. Very sad, he left a wife and 2 children behind.

ReplyDeleteI was in his band in June '78 - Me on bass(Richard Thompson) Tony Richardson keys, vocals, Rick Perez guitar,vocals, Russell Griffith drums.Ollie was in San Diego, and we rehearsed here for a month, then went on the road to Longview Wa- The Attic, Yakima Wa - The Phoenix niteclub, Kennewick Wa- the Cosmo Angus Motor Inn,and Wenatchee Wa, and Pocatello, Idaho- a Ramda Inn Was with him 3 months - we would work out together at any gym in any city - I have some good band stories! I'm still in San Diego
DeleteI was on the road with the band, everyone was married except the keyboard player and Ollie, I was engaged to the keyboard player. They played in Billings MT, Pocatello ID, Salem OR, Olympia WA... Ollie was playing at a place on the gorge until it burned down about 2 years ago. We're Facebook friends.
